Shaping the Future of Disability Inclusion: From CRPD at 20 to the Global Disability Summit 2028 (COSP19 Side Event).

This side event will bring together governments, organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), UN agencies and partners to explore emerging priorities for the Global Disability Summit.

As the international community looks ahead to the Global Disability Summit (GDS) 2028, there is a growing focus on defining the next phase of global disability inclusion and strengthening systems that deliver meaningful change in everyday life for persons with disabilities and their families. Marking the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), this moment provides an important opportunity to take stock of progress and shape future priorities.

Discussions will focus on key areas shaping future action, including inclusive technology and artificial intelligence, pathways for economic participation across the life course—from learning to earning—health equity and integrated care systems, and strengthening inclusive policies, data systems and financing frameworks. The event will cover the ongoing preparations for GDS 2028 and outline how governments, OPDs and partners can engage in shaping the global agenda and contributing to a coordinated, forward-looking approach to disability inclusion.
