Towards the CRPD 20: Advancing Global Governance for Disability Inclusion (CRPD 20 Side Event).


This side event aims to discuss the developments that have taken place in countries since the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the challenges encountered, and possible global solutions to address these challenges.

In this respect; the discussion will be guided around the following questions:

  • What has been the contribution of CRPD and recommendations of UN human rights mechanisms for the realization of the rights of PwDs at both national and international levels on the way towards the 20th anniversary of the CRPD?
  • What are the critical challenges in implementing CRPD at both national and international levels?
  • What is the impact of human rights mechanisms and UN bodies on the realization of the rights of PwDs?
  • Is there a need for a dedicated international entity, established by the UN to mainstream disability and promote the realization of the development goals for and with PwDs?

#Envision2030: 17 Goals to transform the World for Persons with Disabilities In September 2015, the General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
