Recreational Life - Living Life - (CRPD-COSP18 Side Event).


The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) states that full participation in social life and integral development of human potential are inalienable rights, to be respected and promoted with courage and responsibility.

During the side event, several innovative experiences from different Italian realities will be presented, where persons with disabilities are the active protagonists of creative and recreational pathways. These initiatives show how recreational, sports, artistic and cultural activities can become not only moments of leisure, but real opportunities for personal growth, creative expression and social inclusion.
The experiences that will be shared will show how it is possible to design and implement fully accessible and participatory recreational settings, capable of adapting to the different needs of persons with disabilities, regardless of their level of support, opening up new and unexpected possibilities for a full and effective realization of the life project of every person with disabilities.

Imagine the world in 2030, fully inclusive of persons with disabilities.

#Envision2030: 17 Goals to transform the World for Persons with Disabilities In September 2015, the General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building on the principle of “leaving no one behind”, the new Agenda emphasizes a holistic approach to achieving sustainable development for all. The SDGs also explicitly include disability and persons with disabilities 11 times. Disability is referenced in multiple parts of the SDGs, specifically in the parts related to education, growth and employment, inequality, accessibility of human settlements, as well as data collection and the monitoring of the SDGs. Although, the word “disability” is not cited directly in all goals, the goals are indeed relevant to ensure the inclusion and development of persons with disabilities.
